Authorize and collect · Sources checked
Know which work you are authorizing and keep that record connected to the final invoice and pickup conversation.
Understand any proposal to take the vehicle apart
If the next step involves opening an affected area, ask what the proposal includes and what information the shop expects to learn. Ask how you will receive the findings and what choices will be discussed afterward. Keep the initial assessment conversation available so you can connect the next explanation to the original concerns.
- Which area or component would be disassembled, and what is the stated purpose?
- What amount is being proposed for that step and any reassembly?
- What should I understand about the vehicle's condition if I choose not to continue?
- How and when will the findings and next proposal be presented?
- Who should the shop contact for the next decision?

Arrange collection before making the trip
Ask the shop to confirm that the vehicle is ready for the agreed collection, the pickup window, the current balance and the documents you will receive. If another person will collect it, confirm the arrangement with the shop beforehand. Bring your questions in a short list so the handoff does not rely on memory.
Ask about any storage terms or collection deadline that could affect your situation. Record the actual explanation and the contact for follow-up. Do not apply a general rule from another repair to this vehicle's current arrangement. BAR's storage guidance is linked below for consumers who need to understand that topic more closely.
Review the final paperwork and open items
Compare the final invoice with the documents you authorized, including later changes. Ask the shop to explain an unfamiliar line and identify any supporting records that belong with your vehicle. The separate handover article covers reviewing the repaired area and care instructions; this page focuses on keeping the paperwork connected.
Before leaving, write down any open question, who will respond and the follow-up method. Save the final invoice, payment receipt and relevant communications in your own folder. A later question will be easier to explain when you can point to the same document and date the shop has on file.

Questions about this step
Can authorization be given by phone or electronically?
BAR recognizes oral and electronic authorization as well as written authorization. Ask which document and work the request covers, and retain the shop's record and your related messages.
What should I confirm before pickup?
Confirm readiness, the collection window, the current balance, payment arrangements and the records you will receive. Ask the shop to identify any unresolved item and agree on a follow-up contact.
